So what makes More Than Livery different to the average livery yard?

Well, for a start, the focus is on each individual horse and rider and helping them to achieve their goals, rather than simply providing a stabling facility. Whether your enjoyment or aim is to compete in dressage, showing, show-jumping or eventing, or you just want to enjoy hacking or perhaps join one of the local hunts, then we are in a prime position to help.

At the heart of More Than Livery is Sheena Grierson. A former Young Rider 3 Day Event Team Gold Medalist and current Prix St. George Dressage competitor, Sheena produces all her own horses and helps many other riders achieve their goals.

Her PSG Horse – I’m Clever Cloggs, affectionately known as Mischief, was both bred and trained by Sheena. Sheena and Mischief have also provided dressage to music displays at Highclere Horse Trials & Festival of the Horse and Walthamstow Greyhound Stadium.

In addition to dressage, Sheena also enjoys eventing (having previously competed at Badminton) and is currently bringing on Coustou, an ex-race horse who is now discovering a new life as an eventer. The combination intend to affiliate in 2009.

Other clients come to Sheena for tuition and coaching – whether this be a regular session, or just an occasional boost to their own schooling methods. Lessons can be provided at the yard, or at your own facilities if you prefer.

Head Girl, Vicky, helps Sheena with the day to day running of the yard and enjoys competing herself in dressage, show jumping  and eventing as well as hunting with her horse, Solomon.

Anne is the proud owner of the yard itself and also of Fleur - Windrush Weirs Celosia - a stunning Trakhener mare who is extremely talented and show bags of potential. Sheena is currently competing Fleur at Novice & Elementary dressage (having qualified recently for both the Novice & Elementary dressage to music Winter Regional finals) and they have also taken their first steps into the world of eventing, which they hope to progress with in 2009.

Anne has recently purchased a second horse - Winnie  - who has arrived on the yard to get Anne back in the saddle after time spent locating our fantastic new yard and then moving house and horses left her with little time for riding. Winnie is an extremely talented dressage mare and the pair intend to start competing again this Winter.

Lindsey became part of More Than Livery in 2000 with Charlie, a 6yr old gelding who was barely capable of trotting a circle. Lindsey’s aim was to do a dressage test, believing this to be a “safe” option after a previous bad experience whilst jumping. In May 2003, the pair completed their first 3 Day Event and went on to compete at BE Intro and Pre-Novice. Having recently sold Charlie as an eventing schoolmaster, Lindsey has now taken on Jack - a 7 year old Irish chap, as a new project with the ultimate aim of eventing up to Pre-Novice level.

Claudine and her horse, Peter, also compete at dressage and are taking part in their first dressage to music test at the Isis Dressage Group's Christmas show in early December this year. Claudine has also taken her first few steps off the ground with a few jumping lessons earlier this summer.

Jo has returned to More Than Livery after a few years away from the riding scene. She has now taken on ex-race horse, Coquelles, and hopes to compete at dressage with her in 2009.

Cat is a recent arrival with her Appaloosa, Raine. The pair enjoy spending their time enjoying the quiet hacking, but more than that - jumping is their thing.

Other members of the gang include Katie & Emma with their two ponies, who can disappear for hours on long hacks during their school holidays) and Sue with her elderly mare, Jodie.

Lindsey's (long-suffering?) husband, Paul, can usually be found on site making new show jumps, helping Vicki's (equally long-suffering?) father, David, repair fences or being generally on hand to fix things.

As well as support for riders, horses of all ages and type come to the yard to be helped through the first stages of their education, or to have deep-seated problems unravelled.

During a long, fun and rewarding day at the yard, our warm, dry club-room provides a refuge from the elements and refreshment as well as being used for class-room based lessons etc.  Social activities are a big part of everyday life from the Christmas Party, trips to Olympia and lecture/demonstrations to interactive, informative evenings aimed at fun and enlightenment.
